Love your lenses week!

Taking place between the 25th and 31st of March 2017 is Love your lenses week. Love your lenses week is an awareness activity from the General Optical Council to remind contact lens wearers and providers of the importance of taking care of both your eyes and your contact lenses. During this week we will be joining forces with optometrists, contact lens opticians, and contact lens manufacturers and retailers across the UK to celebrate Love Your Lenses Week 2017.

Love Your Lenses Week is a time for everyone who has anything to do with contact lenses – from wearers to opticians to manufacturers – to remember that if you love your eyes, love your lenses.

If you are a contact lens wearer it is important to have regular appointments with your Optician. It is recommended for you to have a contact lens appointment every 12months or more often if advised so by your optician.

Contact lenses have improved millions of people’s lives, providing them with a simple and convenient alternative to spectacles.  And they are a safe option if cared for properly. However, recent research shows that not all contact lens wearers are consistent in caring for their lenses. Inconsistency in lens care can result in eye infections. Although in most cases these infections are treated fairly easily and you will need to take a break from wearing lenses for a little while. In rare cases a much more serious infection called acanthamoeba keratitis can cause lasting damage to the eye!

Love Your Lenses Week is an opportunity to celebrate the many benefits that contact lenses can bring while also reminding wearers of the importance of treating their lenses with love and respect.
