Spectacles For Ski-ing

If ever you’ve skied or snowboarded in the mountains, you’ll know just how much it’ll take out of your leg muscles but the effect on your eyes can be equally powerful and much longer lasting.

Mountain areas have much higher UV levels which can lead to temporary ‘snow blindness’ or in the longer term, increase the likelihood of you having to face cataract surgery.

Crizal UV lenses from Essilor have an Eye-Sun Protection Factor (E-SPF) of between 10 and 50, depending on you choice of lens. An E-SPF of 25 for example, means your eyes are 25 times more protected than without eyewear.

Most people take some tumbles when they ski so you’ll need resilient frames and lenses. Airwear lenses are virtually unbreakable and filter out all harmful UV rays. They can be tinted to make them excellent sun and ski lenses.

An alternative is Essilor Polarising lenses which cut through reflected glare and make excellent all-purpose sunglasses.

Some people prefer wraparound sun spectacles, as they stop UV getting in from the side. If you need prescription lenses you don’t have to miss out, as there are single vision and Varilux lens options available. Just ask us for details.
